Working Groups

Serving to guide Occupy Cleveland in creating strategies and actions to support the development, function and growth of the movement.

Arts & Culture - occupyCLE.artsculture@gmail.com

Focuses on utilizing the arts to connect with people in support of Occupy Cleveland.  Projects include music, theater, graphics, crafts, poetry, video and other means of non-violent communication and expression to attract, engage and inform the citizens of the Greater Cleveland area.

Promotes the critical awareness of means of oppression in the majority of society and culture and ensures the movement transcends these ways of thinking and behavior.  We encourage exploration of the general domination of the movement by white males, to the exclusion of a wider diversity of potential leaders thus undermining the democratic processes by the desire of a few to concentrate power, control agendas and resources. Teach-Ins facilitate groundwork for a movement that empowers people of all diversities to engage in social and political change.

Develops contacts with labor, religious, and other community organizations. Presents Occupy Cleveland through non-media channels such as face-to-face organizing, community meetings, direct outreach actions, and major events. Provides a point of contact for outsiders to get connected into Occupy Cleveland as volunteers, allies, and participants.

Focuses on organizing in accordance with (Community Outreach and Media) events, marches, demonstrations and other activities that involve Occupy Cleveland and its communities.

Manages funding and expenses and ensures that Occupy Cleveland complies with the highest standards of fiscal responsibility as well as ensuring proper financial instruments and institutional tools are utilized to maximize success with complete transparency.

Focuses on legal strategy and guidance of Occupy Cleveland to minimize exposure to risk and to help Occupy Cleveland function within the legal system appropriately, taking advantage of traditional legal tools and procedures.  Additionally the group strives to maintain effective communications with government officials and departments that Occupy Cleveland interacts with to ensure effective communications and relations.

A coalition of independent media producers/creators that provide a hub for production, dissemination and aggregation for the message of Occupy Cleveland.  Utilizing varied multimedia disciplines including social media, web, programming and traditional (print/tv) communication methods.  We disseminate and network with other independent solidarity media working groups and organizations covering the Occupy Movement. The Daily Digest provides pertinent information to all working groups, occupiers and supporters.

Supports, maintains, and implements the technology needs of the greater Occupation online and on the field.  We handle things such as power and internet connectivity, web applications and communication, designing best standards and practices for technology usage.
