March today (Monday) RE Access to Health Care – 10:45 AM

This in yesterday…

I just received a call from Al Porter, local hip hop artist and chair of Black On Black Crime. He informed me that there is going to be a march on Cleveland Clinic this Monday for a young woman who died in transit to Metro Health because Cleveland Clinic closed down facilities that would have been much closer to her.

This is not only an important chance to highlight issues of disparity in access to hospitals and health care, it’s a real opportunity for us to show our local community that we care about the issues and challenges facing them. This is not just an important cause, but an extremely symbolic gesture of support. Please consider briefly discussing this at tomorrow’s meeting and showing solidarity as members of Occupy Cleveland at the march.

Members of the march will be meeting this Monday, March 19th, at the house of a family at 2280 East 95th & Cedar at 10:45am. The march will begin at 11:00am and will proceed to the Cleveland Clinic’s Intercontinental Hotel. I am looking for more info online about the deceased and the march, but have yet to find anything. I have posted contact info for more information in our private groups. Again, please consider coming out and showing your solidarity.

Heartfest Planning Meeting Monday Mar. 19 @ 7 PM

Big Heartfest mindmeld tomorrow night at 7 at the Fortress. Be there. Latecomers will be allowed.
Meeting will rehash BM@T ideas and bring to the table the St.L crew’s ideas. Let’s come together and get the ball rolling, for reals. ♥ > $

There is also a call for volunteers to man the info tent shift during the meeting so that regulars can attend the planning meeting.

Permit bottomliner request for Occupy Heartfest

An activist who has been bottomlining obtaining the Heartfest permit can no longer do so. If you are able to take over this responsibility, please check with the Occupy Cleveland Open Forum on Facebook to see how to help out. The permit applicant must be someone over 21 who has no pending court cases and is able to take on responsibility in the case that someone would decide to sue the city with respect to incidents like tripping over something and breaking an ankle at the festival. The applicant also has to follow the assembly/proposal process and/or coordinate with anything that has already been decided (best to attend Heartfest meeting March 19).

Occupy Cleveland activist arrested March 15 – released

An activist from Cleveland was arrested yesterday. 14 were arrested and 2 were in the hospital–there was an incident at Occupy Midwest. Activists left the park voluntarily but police decided to arrest them anyways. Some activists were brutally beaten, some maced. Even people just standing around were affected. The Cleveland activist was let go on the 16th.

Please help give tent regulars a night off–Mar. 23

On the night of March 23rd, we’re trying to give everyone a night off from the tent. So, how about it, guys? Can we cover shifts like we did back in December?
Say, 8-2, 1-7, 6-11? Or even all night? Katie is keeping track so please contact her if you’re interested.

  • Help for info tent regulars covering shifts
  • Peace, endurance, mutual respect, healthy environment, kindness, community

THE ROPE OF MINDFULNESS

“Cultivating mind’s inherent capacity to stay put is called mindfulness training. Mindfulness is like the rope that keeps the wild elephant from destroying everything in sight. The rope of mindfulness brings us back to our immediate experience: to our breath, to our walking, to the book in our hands.”

Columbus activists arrested at anti-fracking rally

Activists were arrested before even making it to the ODNR public grounds to protest fracking. One activist comes from Cleveland. http://www.progressohio.org/blog/2012/03/breaking-fracking-protestors-arrested-at-odnr.html

Call for help to stop fracking – Massillon area

OccupyCanton–Yesterday I found out that if not stopped at the next Massillon City Council meeting, fracking will commence within 3 to 5 miles from my family’s home. This means a horizontal well could be drilled and exploited directly beneath the yard my step daughter plays in. It feels like a violation. An industry is able to sneak below my home and pump millions of gallons of toxic and carcinogen saturated water while belching out asthma inducing gas into the air my family will breath because they can make money at the expense of my wife and daughter’s health and well being. Please come to the city council meeting in Massillon on Monday, March 19 at 7:30 pm and help protect the lives and livelihoods of my family, my neighbors and thousands of people who are complete strangers to me. Help me look into my beloved step daughters face and tell her I did something. That we as a community tried. Thank you. An action will be discussed at GA on Saturday.

Occupy Movement Music!

Jonathan Blackshire is promoting his song, “99 to 1″ and has asked everyone to help spread word. Wouldn’t it be great if this could be adopted by Occupy Wall Street as its official song? Well, this is what he’s asking! Can you please post, “This song should be the theme song of Occupy Wall Street!” on the movement’s facebook pages?

Occupy Cleveland poetry anthology

We’re putting together a poetry anthology and would like to get this published in time for HeartFest. Please send submissions to stevens.connor23 [at symbol] yahoo.com.

Occupy Cleveland made national news again

A reporter from ABC News gives us a shout out for Occupy HeartFest…

Call to shut down Monsanto with solidarity march in Ohio

OccupyMarines has asked us to perform a solidarity event regarding shutting town Monsanto March 16 and March 17. The issue with Monsanto is that they’ve been very aggressive in their business practices and have promoted unhealthy ways of farming and living. Some feel that the high rate of suicides among Indian farmers is because of the way Monsanto has imposed genetical modified seeds there, and the high cost of the seeds. They are also one of the companies responsible for the notorious chemical “Agent Orange.”

Research for Theater Piece: Please Share Your Thoughts

For a theater work that we’re putting together (current working title: the Occuplay), we’re asking Occupiers and people connected, however tenuously, to the Occupy Movement, to answer four questions:

1. Who are you? (in a more significant sense than, say, name and age).
2. How did you hear about and come to Occupy?
3. What has your experience with and in Occupy been?
4. What is your vision of the future?

We intend to collect as many sets of responses as we can by March 5th. After that, we’ll be weaving these into performance scripts.

People will be collecting interviews at the tent and elsewhere. You can also email text responses or links to audio or video responses to occupycleveland.occuplay@gmail .com
