Updates on Spaces for Office

12-5 12-4 Thread in forums – Leader building Kaput – 850 Euclid is a new proposed venue.

12-4 Thread on Occupy Cleveland Non-violently Facebook group – http://www.facebook.com/groups/occupycleveNV/ – “Debrief on logistics and discuss City Club of Cleveland opportunity to occupy there”. Within the thread, the author specifies “For (lowest)$200 per month, we get small room, access to conference room, free wi-fi and printing/faxing capabilities. We could find a donor or sponsor, but #OC would have to be organized. Staying overnight is unacceptable. People are working on finding foreclosed homes to occupy/sleep.”

Another writer says, “There is another possibility. We have the opportunity to have a big warehouse space (almost 3,000 sq ft) for $300 a month. It’s only available until May, but it’s a pretty sweet deal…. All the details are here: http://unju.st/forum/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=1149. I don’t see why we can’t have a place, like that warehouse, where we can have WAG meetings, do projects (including painting), have larger affinity meetings (like we had at Trinity), have GAs and let people sleep and shower. Seems like everything we’ve been looking for, all in one place…”

11-30 Three occupiers met today with Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen union, asking for a free or big discount office or at least the use of large conference room for weekday 6:00 p.m. GA, at this union’s building (the union owns the building) on Ontario next to Old Stone Church. The union’s building manager told us he has to ask the owners (the union) and will tell us their decision. A 200 square foot office for $200 a month was found in the Standard Building downtown.

11-28 The Permanent Occupation group is working on the E. 9th St. Rotunda. There is a possibility of using it for two months. It is unclear if this would allow for staying overnight. Other negotiations with St. Augustine in Tremont have been less fruitful, unfortunately.

11-22 The Brotherhood of Local Engineers and Train Men Union own a third floor room for about twenty people on Public Square. There’s a guard who works there 24/7. Some people will join the occupier who mentioned this to talk to them about possibly using the space. http://unju.st/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1066

We’ve been looking for space between E 30 and W 30 (marching distance to banks and fed are key here) that is accessible 24/7. (Also, should have heat that won’t cost us a fortune).
If you know of a space, know someone who might help us out, or just drove by something with a sign outside and feel like calling and checking, we need your help and any information you find. For the most part this means storefronts or office space (maybe in one of than bank buildings so we can occupy the bank?) but if you’ve got another idea that doesn’t look like that don’t let that limit you.

Here’s a recent thread about the ideal criteria we are looking for in a space: http://unju.st/forum/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=1068 and here’s a recent thread about the current search: http://unju.st/forum/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=764

“Even more important than the warmth and affection we receive, is the warmth and affection we give. It is by giving warmth and affection, by having a genuine sense of concern for others, in other words through compassion, that we gain the conditions for genuine happiness. More important than being loved, therefore, is to love.”

Please Help People at the Info Tent

Seasons greetings from the Public Square Information Working Group (aka the tent trogs.) We are freezing our asses off and the powers that be believe that we dont have it in us to make it through the winter.

Here is a X-mas Wish list we put together this morning:

  • M-L Carhartt Full body Suits
  • Sub Zero Sleeping Bags (for meditation)
  • Marine Batteries w/ charger
  • New tent Phone (preferably a smart one)
  • Internet Access (cheap laptop and hot spot)
  • Snow Shovels
  • Dog Beds (for Honey and Sweeny)
  • Entertainment (board games, radio, bouncy balls, ect.)

These arent things we necessarily need but would probably make our Winter time Comfort Strike a bit more comfortable. We are always in need of more food and stuff to keep us warm. People who committing to doing laundry is also needed.

According to the article Northeast Ohio Plagued by 30,000 vacant homes awaiting demolition, “Former Cuyahoga County Treasurer Jim Rokakis said he believes the number of condemned homes and buildings in Northeast Ohio has ballooned to 30,000. Call for Information

Dear Readers/Occupiers:

People who are planning events and work groups–please email these events to occupyclevelandstories (_at symbol_) gmail.com so I can post them rather than having dig and dig every morning through the forums and multiple facebook pages to find these items. It is taking between one to three hours to do this Digest every morning, so emailing info to me will help me get this out more quickly.

Please continue to post GA notes daily in the forum “General Assembly” here: http://unju.st/forum/. It is vital to post these notes for the larger Occupy community so that we know what items are being consented to and what events are consensus events. Thank you to those who have been posting notes!

Peace,

The Temporary Editor

What Would You Like to See?

Please mail letters to the editor, story ideas, meeting times, articles, etc. to occupyclevelandstories (_at symbol_) gmail.com. Also, the Daily Digest is having a working group meeting Sunday, 10/30 at noon in the Tom Johnson (NW) quadrant of Public Square. If not right in the quadrant, please check the white tent west of the square.

Call for Poetry/Creative Writing/Art Submissions – we’re looking for poetry seeds from the larger poetry community, again, a great outreach action. We’re putting together an Occupy Cleveland poetry zine and I’d like to feature some creative items in the Daily Digest as well. Please send submissions to occupyclevelandpoetry (_at symbol_) gmail.com.

Thank you to all people who are making information available!
