Black Friday Activism, Family Fun & Really Really Free Market
We have some great opportunities for activism today. There’s a Black Friday event in Boardman Park, a three mall activity from 8 AM to 6 PM and the Really Really Free Market. These events and activities are creative ways of dealing with the concept of consumerism. Please see today’s events for more details.
The “Really Really Free Market” event is from 11-2 PM today. You are welcome to bring some of your stuff downtown to be share with other people, for free! You might even find some things for yourself. Santa and the Grinch! Your help is requested especially to facilitate the children’s activity.
On Saturday during Winterfest we’re holding a family-friendly event, “Home for the Holidays: Family Fun for the 99%” in Public Square from 4-6 PM. Join Occupy Cleveland as we welcome the season! Sing along to some CRABBY CAROLING with THE GRINCH and everybody’s favority 1%-er, EBENEEZER SCROOGE! Plus music, crafts and SANTA CLAUSE! Candy, hot chocolate, THEATRE, and a surprise or two!
We are in need of carolers to sing alternative lyrics to some well-known carols. Most of all, we ask for bodies of all ages to show that #OccupyCleveland is a vibrant, active movement with a positive message for all Northeast Ohioans. This is a family-friendly activity and will not interfere with the Christmas tree lighting. There will also be drummers!
Please feel free to pass along our flyer.
Permanent Occupiers Representation
We are working on a solution to help the needs of people holding down the tent such that they can be represented well at the permanent occupation workgroup meetings (which are held in another location). The current solution is to call the tent phone at (216) 202-4999 and have each end (the separate meeting spot and the tent spot) put on speaker phone. The hurdle is how to handle stack. The reason for the separate indoor meeting is that some of us have gotten sick from stress and exposure to the elements, and so it is more comfortable to be indoors to handle these meetings; these meetings require a lot of diligent thinking. Ideas for facilitating this peacefully needed. There’s a thread on this in the Occupy Cleveland Non-violently Group and people are encouraged to help.
Opinion Peaces Wanted
I would like to feature articles, opinion pieces, interviews and more in this Digest. With the exception of the occasional poem provided by others, I am still the only person contributing content, and this takes me about fifteen-twenty hours a week. I am looking forward to featuring more diverse perspective on this Digest. It will save me time and it is more fair to our movement to have more than one person provide content.
Peace,
Lady
Please forward opinion pieces to occupyclevelandstories (_at symbol_) gmail.com.

“Genuine happiness requires peace of mind or a degree of mental composure. When this is present, hardship counts for nothing. With inner strength or mental stability, we can endure all kinds of adversity.” — His Holiness the Dalai Lama
Note: “His Holiness” is the Dalai Lama’s self-accepted title and the title bestowed upon him by the people of Tibet. This honors the cultural tradition of some of people of Tibet. One might note that the Dalai Lama tends to respect the beliefs and truths of atheists as well as those of Christians and Buddhists and many other belief frameworks. I mention this because someone had asked why I had posted his title in a previous quotation. One might also think of this in terms of the right of people to call themselves whatever they want, à la “Native Americans” rather than “Indians.”

New Communication Improvements
We now have a Google Group for better communication between working groups. Please participate and help make this a success: http://groups.google.com/group/occupy-cleveland-wags?hl=en.
Our main website’s (occupycleveland.com) Events and Needs pages are now being updated on a daily basis as I run across items in compiling today’s Daily Digest.
Update on Electrical Hookup (For Heat)
Word that an electric hook-up for service is likely possible (to produce heat in info tent). As of 11/22 more word was received that the Mayor’s office is a bit stalled on this decision. The # for the Mayor’s office is 216-664-3990. Please call and ask for heat to be allowed as this is humane for people who are staying outdoors for lengths of time, and there is not really a safety issue with electrically-provided heat.
Update on Possible Winter Home
11-22 The Brotherhood of Local Engineers and Train Men Union own a third floor room for about twenty people on Public Square. There’s a guard who works there 24/7. Some people will join the occupier who mentioned this to talk to them about possibly using the space. http://unju.st/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1066
We’ve been looking for space between E 30 and W 30 (marching distance to banks and fed are key here) that is accessible 24/7. (Also, should have heat that won’t cost us a fortune).
If you know of a space, know someone who might help us out, or just drove by something with a sign outside and feel like calling and checking, we need your help and any information you find. For the most part this means storefronts or office space (maybe in one of than bank buildings so we can occupy the bank?) but if you’ve got another idea that doesn’t look like that don’t let that limit you.
Here’s a recent thread about the ideal criteria we are looking for in a space: http://unju.st/forum/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=1068 and here’s a recent thread about the current search: http://unju.st/forum/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=764
Bank Walk-away Project
We’re considering working on a project involving 44 foreclosed properties. Any addresses / ideas for properties can still be emailed to occupyclevelandpermanentbasecamp (_at symbol_) gmail.com
According to the article Northeast Ohio Plagued by 30,000 vacant homes awaiting demolition, “Former Cuyahoga County Treasurer Jim Rokakis said he believes the number of condemned homes and buildings in northeast Ohio has ballooned to 30,000. Rokakis blamed foreclosures and irresponsible banks, investment firms and individuals who have walked away or ignored their distressed properties.”
Next Generation Council in Cuyahoga County
Note from Editor: Let’s get some representation into this council
Adults 20-34: The NGC will be dedicated to meet the concerns and needs of the regions young adults and young professionals. The vision of the Council is to encourage greater participation in government, to identify or create programmatic or policy opportunities in issues affecting young adults and young professionals in Cuyahoga County, and to inform various elected and appointed officials representing young people about issues specific to them. As a whole, the NGC will work to give young adults and young professionals in Northeast Ohio a major role in working with local government to move the region forward.

This Changes Everything
New! Book by the Occupy Movement – This Changes Everything by Sara van Gelder, through BK publishers; ISBN 987-1-60994-587-9. You can order locally through Mac’s Backs: http://www.macsbacks.com/book/9781609945879
This book features contributions from Naomi Klein, David Korten, Rebecca Solnit, Ralph Nader, and others, as well as Occupy activists who were there from the beginning, such as David Graeber, Marina Sitrin and Hena Ashraf. It offers insights for those actively protesting or expressing support for the movement—and for the millions more who sympathize with the goal of a more equitable and democratic future.
Possible Community Meetings with Police
From Monday’s GA: “Kevin (the white one) happened to meet Police Commissioner McGrath, who suggested a more regular community liaison approach with Occupy Cleveland, which Kevin offered as a proposal. We discussed it a bit and agreed to refer that to the Government/Legislative Working Group that has been working informally.” – http://unju.st/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=969/
Call for Help to Stop Garbage Incinerator
We have an environmental justice issue going on here in Cleveland. We have to put the kabash on this insane deal! Some want to burn toxic garbage right near community gardens and tons of schools. Please help stop this whatever way you can!

Call for Information
Dear Readers/Occupiers:
People who are planning events and work groups–please email these events to occupyclevelandstories (_at symbol_) gmail.com so I can post them rather than having dig and dig every morning through the forums and multiple facebook pages to find these items. It is taking between one to three hours to do this Digest every morning, so emailing info to me will help me get this out more quickly.
Please continue to post GA notes daily in the forum “General Assembly” here: http://unju.st/forum/. It is vital to post these notes for the larger Occupy community so that we know what items are being consented to and what events are consensus events. Thank you to those who have been posting notes!
Peace,
The Temporary Editor
What Would You Like to See?
Please mail letters to the editor, story ideas, meeting times, articles, etc. to occupyclevelandstories (_at symbol_) gmail.com. Also, the Daily Digest is having a working group meeting Sunday, 10/30 at noon in the Tom Johnson (NW) quadrant of Public Square. If not right in the quadrant, please check the white tent west of the square.
Call for Poetry/Creative Writing/Art Submissions – we’re looking for poetry seeds from the larger poetry community, again, a great outreach action. We’re putting together an Occupy Cleveland poetry zine and I’d like to feature some creative items in the Daily Digest as well. Please send submissions to occupyclevelandpoetry (_at symbol_) gmail.com.
Thank you to all people who are making information available!
